IoT Hurt By Lack Of Specific Standards

One of Symantec’s first findings was that a lack of IoT standards was hurting IoT’s wider adoption. That’s because different wireless technologies are better suited for different IoT devices - from lower energy consumption or those that need ad-hoc network coverage. That has meant the industry hasn’t yet settled around one wireless protocol.

That lack of uniform attention to an IoT wireless standard has led to a hodgepodge of standards that not only hurt compatibility, but increase reliance on what Symantec describes as insecure home WiFi communications.
