As advanced machine learning develops, end users will begin to see new smart-machine implementations in the coming year, according to Gartner.

Mobile phone users are already accustomed to virtual personal assistants, such as Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, and Microsoft's Cortana, but users will begin to see smart machines that go a step beyond, including autonomous vehicles, robots and smart advisors.

WHAT SOLUTION PROVIDERS NEED TO KNOW: While many of these agents are targeted toward a more consumer-focused market, Gartner predicts that IT leaders will begin exploring how they can use autonomous agents to augment human activity.
