As the health care industry continued to be hammered by major breaches in 2015, consumer concern around data security rose, Spitler said. That’s especially true in health care, he said, as the data is - in general - very private, personal information. As a result, Spitler said, the report found that consumers are starting to be more hesitant as to what information they turn over to their health care providers.

“It’s something we hold to be very sacred. When we start to see that eroded, it’s not easy … When you hear about these large breaches, you’re going to make people less comfortable in being forthcoming,” Spitler said.
