Data Leakage Is More Common Than You’d Think

While it can be hard to pinpoint exactly when data has been leaked, Gordon said a company survey, done in conjunction with Enterprise Management Associates (EMA), found that 50 percent of mid-tier companies experienced “frequent” file data leakage. A large majority, 83 percent, said their companies didn’t have the technical controls to align file data sharing with security policies and risk management.

“That’s a pretty big gap and you’re seeing results from that gap [in instances of data leakage],” Gordon said.
