Channel firms have been going gangbusters to increase their sales and marketing capabilities, CompTIA found, with 74 percent adding sales staff and 72 percent adding marketing reps.

Four in 10 large channel firms added at least one marketing rep in the past year, according to CompTIA, as compared with just 18 percent of their smaller and less deep-pocketed counterparts.

CompTIA said the hiring has come about as a result of channel-oriented firms recognizing that service-oriented sales and long-term relationships require persuading the customer of a solid and skilled reputation.

Conversely, 60 percent of companies have also eliminated sales or marketing reps in the past year as they moved in new business directions.
